30-річної війни в Європі XVII століття.
The article is devoted to the study of the Cossacks’ era, the Black Sea frontier and the international situation after the adoption of the Peace of Westphalia. In the XVII century there was a new international situation that arose in Europe due to the adoption of The Peace of Wesphalia. This document established the precedent of peace established by diplomatic congress. A new system of political order arose in central Europe, based upon peaceful coexistence among sovereign states. This was the beginning of the formation of nation-states that sought to legally formalize their own borders. At that moment, the Northern Black Sea Coast was not controlled by anyone. However, it was difficult to master because of the formation of a new social stratum – the Cossacks. In Ukraine the first mention of Cossacks dates back to 1489, and in Polish chronicles 1493. Cossacks were first in Europe who created a regular army, and over time they began to create their own state. The brainchild of this activity was the Hetmanism – the Cossack state, the basis of which were the social ideas of military democracy. At the beginning of its existence, the Cossack Hetmanate signed international treaties, but in the era of the Ruins it became the subject of international law. The Russian Empire, the Commonwealth, the Ottoman Empire and the Swedish Empire fought for its territory. Each of these states had its own geopolitical plans, which it realized thanks to the Black Sea frontier.
