Анотація
Стаття присвячена визначенню ролі інтонації у реалізації мітигативної тактики вибачення в сучасному англомовному кінодискурсі. Встановлено, що комунікативна стратегія мітигації відноситься до негативної ввічливості, яка допомагає комунікантам мінімізувати порушення території партнера по комунікації, модифікувати значення власних пропозицій зниженням категоричності або ухильністю.
Комунікативна тактика вибачення є засобом мітигації відмови, незгоди, негативної оцінки, поганої новини. Тактика вибачення демонструє позитивне ставлення мовця до слухача, зміцнює статус останнього та сприяє кооперативному перебігу інтеракції. Реалізуючи тактику вибачення, мовець прагне добитися прихильності слухача, відіграючи дві ролі одночасно: роль винуватця та людини, яка сама себе засуджує. На лексичному рівні вибачення реалізують конвенційні мовленнєві засоби, тобто форми, іллокутивна сила яких відповідає їхній мовній, системно закріпленій семантиці. Основним засобом є експресив sorry, який часто увиразнюється інтенсифікаторами so, very, really. Іншими засобами вираження вибачення слугують дієслова «excuse», «forgive» та «apologise», прийменник «for» та іменники, які номінують привід для вибачення.
Проведений аудиторський аналіз інтонаційних засобів маркування мітигативної тактики вибачення в англомовному кінодискурсі доводить, що фрази вибачення оформлюються спадним або висхідним ядровим тоном, більш довгі фрази оформлені спадною шкалою. Частотність вживання спадного ядрового тону можна пояснити його властивістю забезпечувати серйозність, зваженість та зсувати фокус уваги з фраз, «загрозливих для обличчя», на мітигативні репліки, висхідний тон слугує позитивним маркером ввічливості, що спонукає учасників розмови до інтеракції та обміну інформацією. Встановлено, що тактиці вибачення притаманний середній або низький тональний рівень вимовляння та переважно середній тональний діапазон. Ця тактика характеризується переважно нормальною гучністю та прискореним темпом мовлення. Пониження гучності забезпечує більш довірливу, інтимну тональність спілкування.
The article aims at determining the role of intonation in the implementation of the mitigating tactic of apology in modern English-language film discourse. It has been established that the communicative strategy of mitigation refers to negative politeness, which helps communicators minimize the violation of the territory of a communication partner, modify the meaning of their own propositions by reducing categoricality or evasion. The communicative tactic of apology serves to mitigate refusal, disagreement, negative evaluation, bad news. The tactic of apology demonstrates the speaker’s positive attitude towards the listener, strengthens the status of the latter and promotes the cooperative course of interaction. Implementing the tactic of apology, the speaker seeks to please the listener, performing two roles at the same time: the role of the culprit and the person who condemns himself. At the lexical level, apologies are implemented by conventional speech means, that is, forms whose illocutionary force corresponds to their linguistic, systematically fixed semantics. The main means manifesting apology is the expressive sorry, which is often highlighted by the intensifiers so, very, really. Other means of expressing an apology are the verbs “excuse”, “forgive” and “apologise”, the preposition “for” and nouns that nominate the reason for an apology. The auditory analysis of intonation means marking the mitigating tactic of an apology in English-language film discourse has been helpful to prove that apology is framed with a falling or rising terminal tone, longer phrases also have a descending scale. The frequency of using a falling terminal tone can be explained by its ability to express seriousness, weight and to shift the focus of attention from phrases that are “threatening to the face” to mitigating remarks. The rising tone serves as a marker of positive politeness, encouraging the communicants to interact and exchange information. It has been established that the tactic of apology is characterized by a medium or low pitch level and a predominantly medium voice range. This tactic is also characterized by a predominantly normal volume and an accelerated speech tempo. Lowering the volume provides a more trusting, intimate tone of communication.
