Diabetic nephropathy is the single most common cause of end-stage renal disease and is associated with greatly increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. With the rising prevalence of type 2 disease it has come to pose a heavy burden on healthcare systems worldwide. In this regard, the most promising and economical for the national health care in the development of modern diabetic care is the prevention of vascular complications of diabetes, in particular diabetic nephropathy.
