Анотація
Стаття досліджує Центральну Азію як потенційний простір для розширення військової агресії Російської Федерації за умов зростаючого впливу Китаю через ініціативу “Один пояс, один шлях». Здійснено глибинний аналіз геополітичного значення регіону, інструментів військової, економічної та інформаційної присутності Москви, а також роль КНР як чинника стримування або стимулювання агресивних дій Кремля. Окрему увагу приділено гібридним загрозам – впливу медійних структур та інформаційних кампаній, потенційним “миротворчим” інтервенціям під егідою ОДКБ. Розглянуто ключові точки потенційної ескалації напруженості: Ферганську долину та північ Казахстану. Досліджуються можливості багатовекторної політики держав Центральної Азії та їхня взаємодія з новими міжнародними партнерами, включаючи Україну, задля диверсифікації транзитних і енергетичних маршрутів.
The article investigates the evolving strategic landscape of Central Asia as a potential realm for Russian military expansion in the context of intensifying competition with China. It begins by outlining how the Russian Federation has leveraged its legacy relationships and security structures – namely, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) – to maintain a dominant military and economic presence throughout the five post-Soviet republics. Moscow’s toolkit, the study shows, combines forward-deployed bases, bilateral security agreements, energy transit control, and an extensive media apparatus aimed at shaping regional narratives. Simultaneously, China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has dramatically increased Beijing’s footprint through massive infrastructure investments, including rail corridors, highway networks, and port upgrades. The paper analyzes how these projects have enhanced China’s economic leverage, enabling it to serve as both a competitor and, paradoxically, a stabilizing counterweight to Russian influence. A core focus of the research is the emergence of hybrid threats. The article examines how Moscow might respond to perceived erosion of its influence by deploying “peacekeeping” forces under CSTO auspices, launching disinformation campaigns via state-linked media outlets, and conducting cyber operations against critical infrastructure. Special attention is devoted to two high-risk zones: the ethnically diverse Ferghana Valley, where cross-border tensions could be exploited, and northern Kazakhstan, home to a significant Russian-speaking minority. Finally, the study highlights the agency of Central Asian governments themselves. It assesses how Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan pursue multi-vector foreign policies – engaging not only with Russia and China but also exploring partnerships with the European Union, the United States, Japan, and Ukraine. These efforts aim to diversify transit and energy routes, reduce overreliance on any single power, and bolster regional resilience. The article concludes that the future security and stability of Central Asia will depend on the ability of its states to balance the competing strategies of Moscow and Beijing while cultivating alternative alliances and infrastructure corridors.
