Problem Statement and Purpose. The article highlights the features of assessing the ecological and agro-ameliorative state (AEMS) of chernozems within the irrigation systems of the steppe zone of the Odesa region under martial law. The study of the impact of irrigation on the properties of chernozems and the assessment of their condition in the pre-war period are highlighted in numerous works by soil scientists and agrochemists of Ukraine, which established the widespread development of degradation processes in chernozems of the region’s irrigation arrays. The problems of modern land monitoring within the irrigation systems of the Odesa region indicate the need to conduct soil and ecological monitoring within the stationary observation sites established by specialists of Odesa University in the 1990s. However, under martial law, monitoring and assessment of the agro-ameliorative condition of irrigated lands in the region provides grounds for further strategic planning, which determines the subject of our study. Data and Methods. The materials were the results of the research activities of the department and PSRL-4, starting from the 90s of the last century. In preparing the article, the traditional comparative geographical and comparative genetic approaches (methods) for soil science and geography were used, as well as laboratory analytical, statistical and cartographic approaches in assessing and interpreting the obtained research results. Starting from 2022, since the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, comprehensive soil science and geography studies have been carried out on the irrigation arrays of the region in areas of long-term observations at key sites (DSS), where the morphological and genetic, physical, physicochemical and agrochemical properties of chernozems and the dynamics of their changes were studied. Results. According to the results of studying the morphological-genetic, some physical, physico-chemical and agrochemical properties of irrigated (including post-irrigated) chernozems of the region, progradation trends have been established under conditions of irrigation with high-quality water using modern agricultural technologies (DSS-1 and 3), relatively stable regimes of simple reproduction under conditions of cessation of irrigation with high-quality water while observing scientifically substantiated crop rotation (DSS-4 and 5) and a decrease in the intensity of degradation with complete cessation of irrigation in the last almost 30 years, again due to compliance with crop rotation and the use of modern agricultural technologies in soil cultivation (DSS-2, 6 and 7). The integral assessment of the AEMS indicates a satisfactory state for DSS-2, 6 and 7 and good, respectively, for DSS-1, 3-5, etc. Changes in some physical and chemical properties of irrigated chernozems have been established in the direction of reducing the intensity of the development of degradation processes, mainly under conditions of irrigation with high-quality waters from the Danube and Dniester rivers. Under conditions of cessation of irrigation with poor-quality, weakly mineralized waters, soil-forming processes in post-irrigated chernozems are determined by the renaturalization of their course and a decrease in the degradation trend. Under conditions of martial law and climate change, the need for soil and ecological monitoring within the irrigation arrays is stated in order to comply with environmentally safe standards of nature management and sustainable use of soil and land resources of the region. The assessment of EAMS based on monitoring data has prospects for further implementation in the development of strategies and comprehensive plans for the development of territories. One of the urgent tasks at the regional level, based on the results of long-term soil and ecological monitoring, is the development of a scenario for sustainable and environmentally safe management of soil resources (irrigated and non-irrigated) and the digitalization and updating of the database on soil characteristics, including the development of a soil information system for the region and individual communities. To improve the state of EAMS of lands within the studied irrigation arrays, it is advisable to continue work on the restoration or reconstruction of irrigation systems in the region using drip irrigation, primarily intensive vegetable and fruit and berry crops. At the same time, for traditional grain crops in crop production (winter wheat, corn for grain), sprinkling is optimal.en
