Abstract
Ukraine's integration into the European and world educational space dictates a new vision of the main goal of learning foreign languages in higher education institutions. The researchers point out, first of all, to the change in the status of the educational discipline «foreign language» from the point of view of its cultural function, since language is not only «a source of communicative activity, but also a means of cognition, formation and transmission of thought, expression of feelings, emotional states of a person, a means of realizing all needs educated people» [4, p 293]. The leading goal of learning a foreign language by students of higher education institutions of various fields of training is the foreign language competence of the individual, and the desired result is the use of a foreign language as an accessible means of communication and enrichment of professional training experience.
