штормів і визначення векторів їх руху різними способами;
3) відбір і аналіз просторово-часового розподілу грозових розрядів для відібраних випадків;
осередків грозової діяльності;
The master’s qualification work of Lieutenant O. I. Popyk, titled ″Forecasting the movement of convective storms under conditions of extreme wind turns with height″ is dedicated to researching the characteristics of convective storms of various types and evaluating the effectiveness of modern methods for forecasting their movement under different vertical wind profiles. The paper proposes an approach to improving convective storm forecasting (using the 30R75 and ID Bunkers methods) by taking into account storm evolution and the influence of the vertical wind profile on storm trajectories. Using atmospheric radiosonde data from the Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Kryvyi Rih stations at 00 and 12 UTC, a database of six cases of multi- and supercell storms was compiled. For each storm, wind hodographs were constructed in a polar azimuth- velocity coordinate system to determine storm type. Multicell storms are characterized by unidirectional wind hodographs, whereas supercell storms develop under conditions of a “rightward” wind shift in the lower troposphere, indicating the presence of heat advection in this layer, which sustains their life cycle. A comparative analysis of the effectiveness of different methods for predicting the direction and speed of thunderstorm cells showed that supercell storms are characterized by low mobility. For multicell storms, the Bunkers method was effective when the wind shift exceeded 90° in the 0-6 km layer. However, when the wind shift was within 90°, the Bunkers method demonstrated lower accuracy than the 30R75 method, although overall their accuracies were comparable. The relevance of this study stems from the need to enhance forecasting methods for convective storms and to obtain preliminary conclusions about the potential duration and intensity of predicted convective phenomena, in order to improve the timeliness of decision-making aimed at minimizing their impacts. The aim of this work is to conduct a comparative analysis of the 30R75 and Bunkers methods for forecasting the direction and speed of convective storms under varying vertical wind profiles. The tasks completed during the study include: 1) compiling of a database of convective activity cases over the territory of Ukraine and calculating their quantitative characteristics – wind indices, mean storm-relative winds, etc; 2) processing radiosonde data, constructing wind hodographs in the polar “azimuth–speed” coordinate system using RAOB software for the selected cases of convective storms, and determining their motion vectors using various methods; 3) selecting and analyzing the spatiotemporal distribution of lightning discharges; 4) comparative analysis of the effectiveness of methods for forecasting the direction and speed of movement of thunderstorm activity centers; 5) detailing the features of the temporal evolution of convective storms depending on the vertical wind profile. The object of research - convective activity. The subject of the study - convective storms, their types of organization, and the forecast of their movement trajectories. The research methods used in this work are: observation, comparison, and analysis. The scientific novelty of the results lies in the proposed approach to forecasting the movement of different types of convective storms. In particular, it takes into account the analysis of the vertical wind profile to develop measures to reduce potential damage. The practical significance of the results obtained lies in the possibility of using improved approaches to forecasting the movement of convective storms depending on their type of organization in operational activities.
