dc.description.abstractThe war in Ukraine has caused profound transformations in all sectors of the economy, including fisheries, which have traditionally played an important role in ensuring food security and socio-economic development of the regions. Before the full-scale invasion, Ukraine possessed a well-developed aquaculture infrastructure that included more than 3,500 pond farms, as well as a system of domestic and export fish markets. However, hostilities, destruction of hydraulic structures, water pollution, and logistical disruptions led to a sharp decline in production capacity, loss of jobs, and reduced availability of fish products for the population. The socio-economic dimension of the fisheries crisis is reflected in the loss of production base and infrastructure, the decrease in employment and incomes in the sector, as well as the reduced availability of fish products on the domestic market. Military aggression caused the destruction of a significant share of pond farms and fishbreeding enterprises, especially in the southern and eastern regions. Damaged hydraulic facilities, power outages, and water pollution decreased productivity levels and increased the risks of biological losses (Table 1). These structural destructions became a key factor in further reductions of employment in the sector, as the production base had previously provided the majority of jobs.en
