У пропонованому дисертаційному дослідженні здійснено прагмалінгвістичний аналіз мовленнєвого акту подяки в художньому англомовному літературному дискурсі та кінодискурсі. У фокусі студіювання знаходяться лексичні, граматичні, стилістичні та просодичні засоби вираження подяки, зумовлені ступенем щирості мовця. Методико-теоретичну базу роботи склали теорія ввічливості (П. Браун, Е. Гоффман, С. Левінсон, Дж. Ліч, Г. Каспер, Р. Лакофф), теорія мовленнєвих актів (Дж. Остін, Дж. Сьорль) та конверсаційний аналіз (Г. Джефферсон, Г. Сакс, Е. Цуї, Е. Щеглофф). Подяку розглянуто як мовленнєву тактику реалізації стратегій увічливості, як мовленнєвий акт, що переслідує певні іллокутивні цілі та має перлокутивний ефект, як комунікативний хід із певними структурними ознаками у мовленнєвому обміні.

The thesis focuses on the pragmalinguistic analysis of the Gratitude Speech Act in the English Literary and Film Discourse and aims at establishing lexical, syntactic, stylistic and prosodic means of expressing Gratitude presupposed by a certain degree of sincerity. Politeness Theory (P. Brown, E. Goffman, G. Kasper, R. Lakoff, G. Leech, S. Levinson), Speech Act Theory (J. Austin, J. Searle) and Conversation Analysis (G. Jefferson, H. Sacks, E. Schegloff, A. Tsui) have served as the methodic and theoretic background for conducting the research. Gratitude has been analyzed as a speech tactics realizing politeness strategies, as well as a speech act that meets certain illocutionary aims and is intended to produce a certain perlocutionary effect, and as a communicative move, characteristic of certain structural features in the communicative exchange.
