Chlamydiae are obligate intracellular parasites responsible for various acute and chronic diseases in animals and humans. The outer membrane of the Chlamydial cell wall contains a truncated lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antigen, featuring a group-specific epitope composed of a trisaccharide of 3-deoxy-D-manno-oct-2-ulosonic (Kdo). Chlamydia trachomatis infection in men may manifest as epididymitis, orchiepididymitis, vesiculitis, orchitis, cooperitis, prostatitis, urethritis, paraurethritis. Clinical symptoms include mucous discharge from the urethra, weakness, fever and general malaise, presence of blood in semen, discomfort during urination, lower back pain and pain in the urethra and testicles.
