The master’s qualification thesis is devoted to investigating the efficiency of biofiltration using micro- and macroalgae to improve water quality in aquaculture systems, particularly in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). The study focuses on the biological characteristics of algae, the mechanisms by which they absorb nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic compounds, and the potential for integrating algal biofilters into modern water treatment technologies. The relevance of the topic is driven by the need to implement environmentally oriented technologies in aquaculture enterprises, reduce negative impacts on aquatic ecosystems, and increase the efficiency of water use under conditions of intensive production. The use of algae as natural biofiltration agents ensures rapid assimilation of nutrients, reduces the risks of eutrophication, and contributes to maintaining ecological stability within the system. The thesis analyzes the theoretical foundations of biofiltration, describes micro- and macroalgae suitable for biofiltration, examines the mechanisms of nutrient and organic pollutant removal, and presents the design of an algal biofilter and the evaluation of its performance. Experimental results on water purification efficiency, comparative analysis of different biofiltration systems, and prospects for their application in modern aquaculture are provided. The master’s thesis comprises 71 pages and includes 21 tables, 5 figures, and 39 references.
