    The role of the speech portrait in creating the protagonist’s image

    The present paper is a contribution to the investigation of lexical stylistic means of creating the protagonist’s image in the novel by Nick Hornby “About a Boy”. In the modern linguistic paradigm, the concept of a speech portrait is actively researched. It has been defined as a set of speech preferences of the speaker in specific circumstances to actualize certain intentions and strategies of influence on the listener (Матвеева, 1993:18). The choice of speech and syntactic means, depending on the goals of communication, is the main task in compiling an oratory report, political slogans and advertising, where the correctness of this choice actually solves the main purpose of this type of information − the impact on its readers and drawing up a new picture of the world for them.
