In the last few years, there has been a growing interest in the South Asian international affairs and in Singapore`s development. The author of the memoirs as a Prime Minister had the influence on both internal and external reforms held in the country. However, studies on Lee Kuan Yew`s personal approach to the reorganization of Singapore is still lacking. The objective of this article is to determine a role of the author in the development of Singapore and his place in the international relations of the second half of the twentieth century. After gaining independence, the Singaporean government had to secure its sovereignty. In order to do that, a wide range of reforms was carried out. The article concentrates on the main reasons which led the country to success. To illustrate the results of the reforms, additional data from various specialized reports is given. As Lee Kuan Yew played a significant role in international relations, the article gives a comprehensive evaluation of Singaporean relations with other states and Lee Kuan Yew`s influence on them.
