For 45 years of its existence the Odessa «Yumorina» has undergone at least six stages of development: 1) the initial stage – 1973–1986; 2) the stage of «perestroika» – 1987–1991; 3) the age of the World Club of Odesites – 1992–1995; 4) the stage of Alexander Pavlovsky –1997–2003; 5) the development stage of «Yumorina» with elements of commercialization, politicization and national culture – 2004–2010; 6) The stage with the participation of clowns and mimes and universalization of the holiday – 2011–2018. Each stage has certain slogans and characters, but since 2004, certain trends are inherent in the carnival movement on a global scale, namely: the commercialization of the movement, the politicization of its slogans and characters, the emergence of elements of national history and culture, the local authorities taking over organizational issues. However, Odesa «Yumorina» from similar events of other countries is distinguished by ignoring the religious features of the carnival and festival period. Let’s note that «Yumorina» is mostly a holiday for tourists, not for local residents, and a modern tendency of unification of holidays is noticeable, when the main event of the festival is the food festival and pop-evening concerts.
