В роботі наведено основні аспекти дослідження феномену геніальності у філософії та психології; проаналізовано дефініції лексичної одиниці genius в англомовних словниках різної функціональної спрямованості; виокремлено концептуальні ознаки досліджуваного концепту.Статья посвящена исследованию особенностей вербализации концепта GENIUS в толковых словарях английского языка. В работе указаны основные аспекты исследования феномена гениальности в философии и психологии; проанализированы дефиниции лексической единицы genius в англоязычных словарях разной функциональной направленности; выделены концептуальные признаки исследуемого концепта.The article is dedicated to the investigation of the peculiarities of verbalization of the concept GENIUS in the explanatory dictionaries of the English language. The research presents main aspects of the study of the phenomenon of genius in philosophy and psychology; analyzes definitions of the lexical unit “genius” in the English dictionaries of different functional orientation; singles out conceptual features of the analyzed concept. The etymology of the word “genius” is being studied. The structure of the semantic meaning of the analyzed lexical unit consists of four sememes, two of which verbalize the given concept as “extraordinary intellectual and creative power; a person of extraordinary intellect and talent”.
