Аналізуються окремі символічні значення і трансформації, які в них відбуваються, на матеріалі поетичних текстів Л. Костенко і Г. Сковороди, якого вважаємо засновником символізму в Україні.The article deals with the notion of «meaning» in modern linguistics; such specific terms as «lexicographic» and «psychologically real» are described. The author emphasizes the concept «symbolic» meaning, which should be the subject of research in the science of language. Taking into consideration the deep nature of the symbol and the information about this phenomenon in the humanities, it is proposed to isolate the new linguistic scientific direction – linguistic symbology. Particular attention is paid to the symbolic meaning of onymi, transformations were described within such meanings. An analysis of individual symbolic meanings and transformations, which occur in them, is presented on the material of poetic texts by L. Kostenko and G.
