dc.description.abstractOur scientific research deals with the problem of investigation of peculiarities of functioning of the nouns in Modern English. Contemporary linguistics is trying to work out an appropriate classification of the parts of speech on the basis of existing theories concerning this matter , including ancient times grammars, medieval scientists’ points of view, prescriptivists’ and post-prescriptivists’ teaching(structural grammar, functional and transformational grammar)[22;23;24;30;32;48;49 ]. Special attention is paid to cognitive grammar theories, in particular, to the prototypical approach to the parts of speech classification[16;48].
