Dnister is the mist important river in the Western and Southern Ukraine, as well as in Moldova. Total length of the river makes 1362 km, 925 km of which flow in Ukraine. The Dnister Basin area is 72100 km2 out of which 73% are in Ukraine and 27% - in Moldova. Water resources in the deltaic part of the Dnister determine quality of life of about 1 million 300 thousand people in Odessa Region, being the main source of water supply to Odessa city and the nearest towns and regions. It is in the deltaic part of the Dnister and in the Dnister Liman (estuary) the concentration of all environmental problems can be registered, which are caused by unsustainable and non-coordinated water management, lack of water protection zones, non-keeping to requirements of nature-protection rules and norms, absence or substandard work of treatment facilities, lack of purpose-orientated basin-wide strategy for the nature reso7urces in the Dnister Basin conservation and restoration.uk
