The Lower Dnister water-bodies are being widely used for fishery, recreation and some other economic purposes. The Lower Dnister and the Dnister Delta suffer all the trans-boundary problems of the basin caused by unsustainable and uncoordinated management, lack of sanitary-protection zones and non-compliance with requirements of sanitary rules and regulations. The objective of the article is to analyse changes in the quality of the Lower Dnister water-bodies using the National and international indices of quality. The materials used in the paper presented have been collected during our annual surveys in 2003-2010. The Lower Dnister region covers the area from the Kuchurgany Reservoir to the Black Sea including the rivers Turunchuk and Dnister, the floodplain lakes and the Dnister Liman (estuary). |
