Antagonistic properties of lactobacilli against causative agent of bacterial plant cancer were investigated, using Lactobacillus plantarum strains isolated from fermented plant products from Ukraine and France. The antagonistic activity was due to low pH effect. The significant part of L. plantarum strains caused growth inhibition of the causative agent of bacterial cancer in vitro. The clear difference in properties between strains, isolated both from Ukraine and France, wasn’t detected. Using test-plants, the bacterial cancer inhibition was from 32.0 % to 100 % under influence of certain lactobacilli strains, and bacterial consortium influence on kalanchoe and carrot was from 26.6 % to 37.5 % that was less effective, but the total inhibition of tumor formation (100 %) in tomatoes was caused by both single lactobacilli strains and their consortia. Phytopathogen Rhizobium radiobacter pJZ with plasmid GFP, which carries gene that encodes green fluorescent protein (GFP), was used to estimate the penetration level of this phytopathogen into the plant tissues. The causative agent could survive on 30 % of inoculated areas in tomatoes treated with lactobacilli, without causing infection, but it couldn’t survive on the plant surface of kalanchoe in the case that phytopathogen wouldn’t penetrate the plant vessels.
